Paola Gutierrez: Behind The Lens

Reporter, producer, television personality. Paola Gutierrez adds her own personal style to any task at hand.
As a reporter and producer for Despierta América, Paola has accomplished many varied tasks, proving her versatility time and again. Paola has landed on a U.S. Navy aircraft carrier and driven the ship, parachuted out of a U.S. Army Golden Eagles plane, flown with the Air Force Thunderbirds on an F-16 jet at a speed 9 times the force of gravity (9Gs), has swum with and fed sharks in the Caribbean, has trained with dolphins for a day, and has trained with the U.S Army field medic teams in San Antonio, Texas.
In addition to these hair-raising stunts, Paola has also interviewed many renowned celebrities from the worlds of music and entertainment, such as Julio Iglesias, Juanes, Marc Anthony, Ricky Martin, Shakira and many, many more.
Yet another aspect to Paola's talents is her ability to empathize with her subject. As a wife and mother of two young girls, Paola gives her one-on-one interviews a unique, hands-on perspective that only a woman who has successfully juggled a family and career can have. In this vein, she has reported on various subjects from chocolate spa treatments, belly dancing as an exercise for young mothers, breast-feeding techniques and innovations, a tough-love program for delinquent adolescents, and many other human-interest stories.
For this and much more, she was recently awarded the Condor of the Andes, the highest recognition granted by the Hispanic community in St. Louis, MO.
Paola can be seen several times a week on Despierta América in her many reports. In addition, she often serves as co-host for said program, taking part in this innovative and fun-filled four-hour live show.

Why did you choose to live on the island?
I didn't really choose. My parents brought us here every year on vacation since 1979. It was impossible not to fall in love with the Key so I can say I lived here most of my life. When I got married it was a natural instinct to drop anchor and settle here with my family so my kids could have the same childhood I had here in paradise island.
What are your top 3 spots here?
Tough choice! My husband and kids love the Donut Gallery and drag me there for breakfast early on weekends. I love 900 for casual dining with friends or family whenever we are lazy to leave the Key. I also love the people at Key Pharmacy as they still make me feel that I belong to a small and wonderful community when shopping with them there!
Tell us about your implication in the community.
As a TV reporter for Univision network, I love the fact that I can use my Media exposure for great causes: whether that be covering Charity organizations/events, interviewing personalities that make a difference in their communities and helping them spread the word, informing the TV audience about a variety of topics that can be helpful with simple things for their daily life routine, or even life saving reports whenever there is something that needs to be broadcasted for safety reasons. The power of media can never be underestimated, and it can certainly be used for positive messages for our communities!
What are your future projects?
I am in love with my family and with my island (as I call it) and I will share a little secret with you; I am a fashion designer and I thank god who has blessed me with my daughters and given me the privilege to live in paradise! This combination has inspired me to create a line of clothing for the family that lives in such a beautiful island as ours. Soon I will give you the exclusive!
